About Bagdad Unified

Our District is located in the small, rural mining town of Bagdad, Arizona. We are unique, in that Bagdad is one of only two towns in Arizona that is company owned. That means that all of our stores, recreation facilities, and housing is owned by Freeport-McMoRan, the company that owns the open-pit copper mine. Copper was discovered in the area around 1880, but it wasn’t until the 1940’s that mining in our town really took off. Housing was built, and the town of Bagdad started to grow.

We have two campuses in our District:  an elementary campus, serving students in kindergarten through 6th grade, and a junior-senior high campus, serving students in 7th-12th grade. We believe that being a small town and District is a great advantage to us. It allows us to have open lines of communication between home and school, and each child gets individualized attention in class. In Bagdad, everyone knows everyone, and you always know where your children are.

Our Mission and Belief Statement

In partnership with the school community, our mission at Bagdad Unified School District is to provide all students with a challenging liberal arts, comprehensive CTE, and college preparatory education, delivered by caring and highly qualified personnel using the best educational practices. We will empower students to become independent thinkers with skills that will enable graduates to become productive and responsible participants in an ever-changing global society.

We believe that all students have the right to learn and teachers have the right to teach.  Staff members will make every effort to protect these rights. We expect all students and teachers to exhibit respect and tolerance toward one another in order to create an atmosphere that is nurturing and encouraging to our students.
